Many have heard of the amazing benefits of Golden Milk. It fights stress, boosts your mood, and helps you fall asleep and stay asleep all night. I've been putting it to the test and can confirm, it has definitely helped me greatly with sleep and stress relief!
With the current global situation, it's no surprise that we're all feeling a little more stressed out. It's completely normal to feel stress, anxiety, and any other emotion during this crisis. I personally have been going through some crazy highs and lows due to all of this crazy change. However, I've been making it a point to work on my stress levels and this golden milk recipe is one way I've done that!
This golden milk recipe is sweetened with my own raw honey. It gives it such a nice sweetness without overdoing it. Raw honey is a lot sweeter than regular table sugar, so you need much less to achieve the same sweetness! Plus it's been shown to boost your immune system among other amazing benefits.
Stress Relief Ingredient
I add a secret ingredient to my golden milk recipe as well. It's called ashwagandha powder. This ayurvedic herb is a root that is used to help lower cortisol levels. I really love this one because it's in powder form and easy to add to smoothies, drinks, and even cookies.
Years ago, when I was suffering very badly from my anxiety symptoms due to a lot of added stress, I decided to try this herb. It really helped with my anxiety and how my body responded to stress. However, as with any supplements, you should always consult your doctor prior to adding it to your diet.
Your doctor will know what specific medications you're taking, as well as any specific health problems you may have. This way they'll be able to tell you if ashwagandha is right for you.
Here's a simple and easy recipe for my version of Golden Milk.
Easy Golden Milk Recipe
Ingredients
- Milk of choice (I prefer coconut milk but any milk will work!)
- Turmeric Powder (I made my own but this one is amazing.)
- Black Pepper (You need black pepper for your body to properly absorb Turmeric.)
- Nutmeg
- Cinnamon
- Ashwagandha Powder
- Raw Honey (Find a local beekeeper near you and buy some of their honey!)
- Vanilla Extract
Directions
- Over medium heat, warm milk in a small pot. Do not allow it to boil, just a light simmer.
- Add all your spices, ashwagandha powder, + vanilla, but not the raw honey.
- Whisk spices + milk on medium heat until well combined.
- Once everything is combined and hot, add it to your favorite mug.
- Sweeten to taste with raw honey.
- Top with coconut whipped cream and more cinnamon! (Optional)
EDIT: I did not add measurements to this recipe because everyone is different and might want more or less turmeric in their golden milk. Personally, I enjoy about 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric per cup of milk and then a dash of everything else. I encourage everyone to experiment to find what they enjoy the most!
This drink is best enjoyed in bed while reading a good book. During these crazy times, any way we can find stress relief or a moment of calm are important. Taking care of my health, spending time in the garden enjoying the sun, reading, and sipping some golden milk all help me.
