Top 5 Flower Farming Books

Top 5 Flower Farming Books

As a beginner flower farmer, I made it a point to look into as many flower farming books as I could. It was important to me to learn as much as I could from other successful farmers. In all honesty, there aren't many books on flower farming! However, there are a few gems that I use over and over again. Some of these links contain affiliate links that give me a very small comission. I wouldn't add anything that I don't stand behind and the costs help us grow more flowers and help more pollinatord! Here is my list of top 5 flower farming books!

Top 5 Flower Farming Books

  1. The Flower Farmer: An Organic Grower's Guide to Raising and Selling Cut Flowers, 2nd Edition

This book is my favorite book so far that I go back to over and over again. Byczynski covers everything any beginner flower farmer needs to know! She's been flower farming for many years and definitely knows what she's talking about.

2. Floret Farm's A Year in Flowers: Designing Gorgeous Arrangements for Every Season (Flower Arranging Book, Bouquet and Floral Design Book)

If you're planning on going the farmer-florist route, this is the perfect book for you. Erin Benzakein does such a wonderful job at explaining how to create bouquets using flowers in season.

3. Deadhead: The Bindweed Way to Grow Flowers

I just started reading this book, which was recommended to me by another flower farmer, and I must say it's a great resource. Jeriann Sabin and Ralph Thurston are a wealth of knowledge in the flower farming world.

4. Floret Farm's Discovering Dahlias: A Guide to Growing and Arranging Magnificent Blooms

Another gem written by Erin Benzakein and the wonderful peopl at Floret Farm! If you're interested in growing beautiful dahlias on your flower farm, this book is for you. Packed with knowledge from start to finish, it's a great resource for those wanting to grow dahlias!

5. Postharvest Handling of Cut Flowers and Greens

I joined the ASCFG earlier this year when I started growing at our apiary. They have multiple books to choose from but I decided to purchase the Postharvest book and I don't regret it one bit! Growing flowers is honestly the easy part, but harvesting and selling a quality product is the hard part. This book takes the guessing out of harvesting so you make sure your customers are getting beautiful, long lasting flowers.

There are many other great books on growing flowers. If you have any that I didn't mention, please leave them in a comment below!
